Rachofsky House
Dallas, Texas
1. Through a study on Richard Meier’s Architectural language and conceptual massing, I can successfully create a more sophisticated BIM model of the house. There are elements found throughout his works that are specific to his language and design choices that can be best represented through a catolouge of conceptual masses
PROJECT 1
MASS
I first studied the way Meir would layout his floor plans. For the Rachosfsky House, Meir uses and ABC layering technique to define the layers. From there, he then divides the mass with the Transverse Axis seperateing the mass into the Private/Public space.
I began by creating the main body mass with the Width being the sum of the three defined ABC layers. You will also notice the red Transverse axis that defines the main entry of the house. This is my AXIS parameter.
The next step was to create a series of massing pieces
specific to Richard Meier’s language that would attached to the main mass like Legos.
As you look closer at the house there are strong elements like the spiral stairs
case and other protruding forms to better define the overall language of the
house. Refer to the images for a better reference.
Loading the masses into main mass family, I was able to create a conceptual mass ready to be placed into a project and began applying walls, and curtain walls as needed.
ENVELOPE
To create this façade, I opened an adaptive generic model and used the spline tool to connect each point. I then created a form between the three lines form the yellow triangle shape you see on the sreen.
I can load that into the project file with the mass family. I then divided the face of the mass and changed it to a rhomboid pattern and began applying my facade to the surface
